Question 1: Will we see any further increases in the performance of the game client? Particularly with regards to the standard UI overdraw. (Currently you get a noticeably higher FPS by removing certain parts of the standard UI, the combat log being a prime example of this).
Answer 1: It was discovered in closed beta around a year ago that people with low-end machines, 32-bit, had FPS-problems. It took a lot of focus and time to get it all sorted out. So when the 32-bit machines got better FPS, they saw that the 64-bits wasn’t performing as well as they should. Frustrating! Carbine knows that the UI is the biggest issue, raidframes specifically. They have solved a lot of issues but have some optimization left to do. This is something they will keep a close eye on after launch. There has also been people from Nvidia over and helped.
Q2: What is your philosophy towards game balance? Will we be seeing constant small updates to keep the classes in line with each other or do you intend to make more significant changes, as needed, but on a longer time frame? Also, will you be keeping class balance changes separate for pve and pvp?
A2: Both, they are equally important parts of the game. We couldn’t get a answer on whether or not there was a separate class balance for pve/pvp. But it was confirmed that the class-skills behave differently depending if you are doing pve or pvp.
Q3: To be able to raid every week, one needs to put a lot of time and effort into maintaining the group, the guild and so on. With 20 and 40 man raiding, time becomes an even bigger factor to be successful as a raiding guild. Are there any tools in Wildstar to help a guild to maintain a proper raiding team, group and guild? What are the plans for the future?
A3: There will be a guild calendar post launch. The group-finder does not work for raids.
Q4: Will Carbine put focus towards guild related activities and progress ladders outside of the existing reputation and elixirs/buffs. E.g. Guild housing or unique guild costumes. And if more guild progress related stuff is put into the game, will the unlock process be more than reputation grinds, lets say through raidboss kills or win percentages in arena?
A4: Guild tabard. It is not possible to upload your own picture, but there are thoughts about making your own ingame tabard-picture.
Guild housing post launch.
Dye, you can color your armor so the group look the same, to feel connected. It must be communicated to the party/raid/war party, and each player must dye their clothes on their own. We asked if there would ever be possible for the guild-leaders (or similar) to set a dye-template that the members could then copy in some way. There isn’t anything like that today, but they liked the idea.
Q5: What philosophy do you have in regards to class development post release, simply tweaking current mechanics and skills or adding new ones?
A5: Balance is priority right now. Other than that they are in the brainstorming phase, they haven’t decided which way to go. But there are a lot of ideas on what could be done. None of which was said.
Q6: Do you have any plans on introducing authenticators for our Wildstar accounts? Would be great if we could choose between a physical device (such as the one World of Warcraft offers) as well as one you install on your smartphone.
A6. Google authenticator has been looked into. Not physical devices.
(Editors note: This has been released on the 3rd of June.)
Q7: Art of armor/weapons is usually better looking on bigger characters in my opinion. How do you plan on making gear look stunning on all races and sizes?
A7: Regardless of the size of character the armor has the same texture resolution. There are costumes that can be places over your armor, to make it look different, but the stats are kept from the armor. There will be more costumes coming, but they couldn’t tell us anything specific yet (even thou they looked like they really wanted to).
Q8: Is there any question you wish us to ask? Something you want to talk about that we haven’t thought of?
A8: Lore! The game has so much lore, it is all about how the Eldan disappeared and that we now must try to colonize this planet Nexus. There is something called World story instances, solo-instances, that are there to teach us more about this world we are playing in. The first one is available at lvl 30 and after that they are unlocked each 5th lvl. It is not necessary to do the instance at that particular level, the content scale. About every 3rd patch there will be more world-story. They said that three months after launch they will release a lore-bomb! Something that will make us go “wow! So that’s how it is!”.
These instances is nothing we have seen yet in the game. It has been locked in both closed and open beta.
Also, it is important for Carbine that we (the players) have fun! That we communicate and know that Carbine listens to us. Carbine reads forums, summarize what people write a lot about and then embraces that and try to make an effort to make a change if it is necessary. They do their outermost to keep in touch with their playerbase. patch there will be more world-story.
Det var allt från Carbine och oss denna gång. Vi försökte få in så många frågor som möjligt och hoppas att ni är nöjda med svaren.
