Friskyttarna – Many of the old maps are not in the usual MM anymore, do you have plans to put them in the game again?
Michael Jivetc: Update 8.0 added the enhanced rendering system and the deferred lightning effect. Since then we’ve been gradually reworking maps to introduce the new graphics. Although a good plenty of maps have already been overhauled, several old ones are still on the waiting list.
That’s why they are not featured in the game. You’ll be able to play on them once they get the improved graphics system.
Friskyttarna – M60, will it ever come to us—ordinary players?
Michael Jivetc: The Medium M60 tank was never meant for Random battles. It was initially introduced as a reward to most experienced players and a means of attracting new users into the Clan Wars. Specials and unique rewards are featured in most MMO games. Think of the Janna/Jarvan skins in League of Legends, the reward portraits in StarCraft II, or the Alliance Tournament ships in EVE Online, for example.
Friskyttarna – In what timeframe will China get their tank destroyer and artillery?
Michael Jivetc: The Chinese arty and self-propelled guns are scheduled for 2014.
Friskyttarna – Do you have any plans for more nations?
Michael Jivetc: We have two new national lines in the works—the Japanese and the combined European tech trees.
Friskyttarna – In a two years old post at the WoT forum it was stated that a European line of tanks is planned to include Swedish tanks. Are Swedish tanks still planned to be released at some point?
Michael Jivetc: As for now, we plan to include Italian, Swedish, and Polish machines in the European line. We consider adding Hungarian and Romanian vehicles as well.
Friskyttarna – What about the British and Russian line of tanks, will they get some new tanks in the near future or do you see those tank lines as complete?
Michael Jivetc: We are working on an alternative line of Soviet medium tanks. It will start at Tier. As for the Brits, the game already fields a five-branch tech tree, and will expand it, adding alternative branches.
Friskyttarna – Have you any plans to expand the maps or just make bigger ones so it will be not an instant head on battle? Bigger as in at least twice the size of the normal 1000m maps today.
Michael Jivetc: We intend to introduce large battle arenas, but it’s really hard to say when exactly we’ll add them. The major obstacle to implementing the feature is its server side performance impact. The engine we’re using right now doesn’t have enough capacity to handle extra calculations, and it will cause lags. The development team is thinking over possible solutions to the issue, but they haven’t come up with a neat option yet.
Friskyttarna – Will you extend platoons to contain up to five players? Or make a new form of group for 5 players, with bigger maps 5 player platoons would not be overpowered.
Michael Jivetc: Three players is the most reasonable size for the game. It allows platoons to contribute to the overall team’s success without making their performance the decisive factor on the battlefield.
Friskyttarna – Will you implement some features from mods into the game? Such as the ability to see what tank tier your platoon member choose in the platoon window, or the ability to have a double lined tank carousel in garage?
Michael Jivetc: The double lined tank carousel is in development, but the full-blown game feature will differ from the mod. As for the platoon window and the ability to see that tank tier your platoon mates choose, we see no point in introducing them.
Friskyttarna – Are there any plans to implement a fuel tank/fuel level so that the driving about will be limited?
Michael Jivetc: These two features will have negative impact on the overall gameplay, so we aren’t going to add them.
Friskyttarna – Will there ever be an in-game interface where we can see what mods we run?
Michael Jivetc: We don’t plan to implement it in the near future.
Friskyttarna – Finally one last question. Have you considered to implement a dynamic weather system or perhaps some kind of day and night cycle (not pitch black nights but dusk and dawn kind of dark)? I would enjoy being caught in a sandstorm, blizzard or heavy rain with thunder and lightning all around, I would of course settle for some snowflakes, a few raindrops and some misty fog as it would bring more life into the game.
Michael Jivetc: World of Tanks will eventually get dynamic weather patterns. Night battles, fog, and rainy elements are among the planned weather schemes, while the changing day and night cycle is out of the question. A 15-minute battle is too short for the day-night switch.
